Because the meaning of mysticism is commonly misunderstood this definition needs some clarification. The dictionary defines mysticism as a personal relationship with God. Given this definition it is easy to see why I have named the theory that, everything existent and non-existent is God, as the axiom of mysticism. If the theory is correct then a personal relationship with God is mandatory because God is all that can be experienced. After being confronted with TAM for the first time my fundamentalist Christian friend said, somewhat flustered, But what are the consequences? The consequences are profound indeed. The reality of the unified God infuses us at all levels of our existence. Scientists talk about Grand Unified Theories (GUTs). These theories are possible models for the behavior of matter when subjected to the stupendous energies prevalent at the beginning of time. All of these theories predict that the structure of matter becomes less diverse at earlier epochs until at some particular temperature there is only one thing that exists. This prediction completely agrees with TAM ushering in the era of the Grand Unified Philosophy (GUPY). The scientific aspect of TAM is of particular importance because it relates the experimentally verifiable mathematical laws of physical science to many aspects of traditional religion that were previously supported by intuition and faith alone. Some of these areas include th e existence and unity of God, moral law, immortality, the power of prayer and the infinite aspects of Divinity. Some traditional religious doctrine cannot survive this marriage of scientific and spiritual ideas. The unifying vision of God revealed by the equations of modern scientific cosmology sanctifies the entire universe. The vision of modern physics directly links the origin of creation to the unified singularity at the beginning of time. I argue that this unified proto-cosmos, predicted by the equations, is the physical aspect of God known and described by the prophets of all monotheistic religions. No particular religion can any longer justly claim exclusive rights to Gods all pervasive spirit. In addition the common Judeo-Christian doctrine of separation, which sees the Creator as totally separated from His creation, must be abandoned in light of these new scientific discoveries. The importance of TAM is not confined to just the Judeo-Christian tradition. This idea is also the deepest teaching of the most important eastern religions. The Tao of Taoism, the void of Buddhism, the Allah of Isam and the Brahma and Atman of Hinduism are all expressions of this unified God permeating the entire Cosmos. Since both the search for God and the search for scientific knowledge are pursuits of truth, a rational mystic must constantly examine all old beliefs in light of new information. In this way religion can utilize the knowledge of science as a guide to understanding the nature of God. There is no longer a case of two different competing cosmologies rather science is a modern tool of true religion. The Scientific Aspect of TAMLet us review the scientific aspect of TAM so that we can properly understand how it supports many fundamental traditional religious doctrines. It is the predictions of the so-called Grand Unified Theories (GUTs) that lead to these profound religious implications. GUTs are based on the amalgamation of the two most successful modern scientific theories, general relativity and quantum mechanics. The theory of general relativity is a theory of the large-scale structure of the universe. It describes the mathematical relationship between matter, space, time and gravity. Shortly after the publication of the theory in 1915 a Russian mathematician named Alexander Fiedmann realized that the theory predicted a dynamic universe which must be either expanding or contracting. Soon thereafter the expansion of the universe was confirmed by observation. As a consequence of this dynamic behavior the volume of the universe must decrease during earlier epochs. As the time parameter of the equations of relativity are turned further and further back to zero several interesting phenomenon important to religion and philosophy occur. The volume of space is reduced to zero, the temperature and density of matter increase without limit and the concept of time no longer has any meaning. It w ould represent an amalgamation of matter, spacetime, and force into an integrated and harmonious framework that bestows upon the universe a hitherto unsuspected unity. Again the positive corollary is that the personal ego also immediately experiences any reward due to an act of charity or righteousness. Since God is the direct source of all individual egos He directly experiences both the pain of the victim and the pleasure of the sinner. Of course, this also holds fo r the positive expression of righteousness and charity. From the point of view of God the books are always in balance. Another logically sound explanation to the question of moral symmetry is the doctrine of reincarnation and its related concept of karma common to Buddhism and Hinduism. This theory is based on the mathematical relationship between moral acts and their consequences and therefor is in agreement with the biblical definition of divine justice and our analysis of natural law as the origin of moral law. The doctrine of reincarnation addresses the possibility that the account in our moral books can get out of harmony over a lifetime and therefor, require another incarnation to bring them into balance. The goal of the practice of these religions is to escape the wheel of birth and death and permanently become united with the universal Self or Atman. Although all of these theories are logically sound they predict some rather uncommon philosophical consequences. For example, in these theories, evil and good are on an equal footing. Both bring one out of equilibrium with the moral ground state. In the case of reincarnation, being out of balance with the books on the good side will cause another birth just as will a bad record. The equal footing of good and evil predicted by the mathematical nature of these theories removes our traditional and, I feel, intuitive guide of goodness as a way of gauging moral activity. At this time I do not know how to reconcile this discrepancy between logical necessity and intuitive feeling except to say that if the books are out of balance on the good side of the ledger at least the time spent in another incarnation will be as pleasant as possible. Perhaps the biblical episode describing the ascension of Elijah is the record of a man who balanced his moral books and was released from the wheel of bir th and death. Biblical In-errancyOur analysis of divine justice brings us face to face with the modern Christian doctrine of biblical in-errancy. This is the idea that the Bible contains no logical errors or doctrinal discrepancies. The usual argument for this theory is that if it is shown that parts of the Bible are discrepant then we cannot be sure that any of it is true. To my mind this outrageous claim is potentially the most destructive of all erroneous modern christian dogma. It is obvious to an objective and intelligent reader that the Bible contains many contradictions. Including this blatantly wrong idea into the mandatory body of Christian belief repulses educated, intelligent and freethinking people. The very kind of people that Christianity needs to continue as an evolving and vital religion. Practicing Christians need not swallow this all or nothing doctrine to be convinced that the fundamental truths of God are revealed in the Bible. For us a conviction of Gods existence is more robust than the requirement of total biblical truth and can survive the fact that there are real errors in the Bible. We are convinced of Gods existence for more fundamental reasons like personal experience of the divine presence in ourselves and in the entire world. Gods power and manifest matter are the substance and life of this magnificent cosmos. Second is logical necessity. This is a world of cause and effect, consequently there must be a first cause. It is this mind-boggling and hair raising cause of time that we rightly call God. Third there is the confirmation of the predictions of scientific cosmology. Thus our conviction of the reality of God transcends any particular religious or philosophical system!As we have seen, TAM cannot maintain the current Judeo-Christian view that a soul fa ces one judgment and then an eternal stay in either heaven or hell. This idea is contrary to the mathematical nature of divine justice that we discussed during our investigation of the moral implications of TAM. The amount of sin that can be accumulated in one lifetime must be finite, therefor, the infinite duration of punishment required by the theory of eternal suffering is out of balance with Gods perfect justice. But now we are confronted with a contradiction within the Bible because there is scriptural evidence for the eternal-suffering model: Mat 25:46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal. This particular problem is no isolated example. The study of biblical theology is rife with contradictory arguments that stem from seemingly conflicting scriptures. I am not going to take the time, in this article, to make an exhaustive list of known biblical discrepancies. There is only one other particular example of biblical errancy that I would like to mention before we end our discussion of this unfortunate doctrine. In Matthew 27:9 Matthew attempts a quote from the Old Testament. He claims that the words come from the book of Jeremiah but a little study reveals that there is no verse even similar to the one used. The verse most like the one that Matthew quotes is in Zechariah 11:12 through 11:13 and it is not even identical to the Matthews words. Men At Forty  Ã‚   The Aging Process Men At Forty  Ã‚   If asked what is the most miraculous thing in the world, most people would say that birth is definitely in the top five.   But, does anyone ever say that getting older, or even dying, is anywhere close to being a miracle?   Though we don’t look at it that way, it actually is a miracle in its own right.   The whole process of living and breathing, knowing that the end will eventually come is mind-boggling.   People just go about every day as if nothing were happening to them. When in all regards, life is slowly being siphoned from their bodies.   With life, there is a continuous cycle that can never be prevented.   Donald Justice makes this realization of life, and the awaiting death, evident in his poem â€Å"Men At Forty† by using a superb combination of imagery, symbolism and tone.     Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Through his use of imagery, Justice plugs the reader directly into the body of an aging man letting them experience the trials of growing old.   â€Å"At rest on a stair landing,/ They feel it† (5-6) projects an unmistakable picture into the reader’s mind of an older man taking a rest while climbing a flight of stairs.   This, in turn, greatly enhances the focus of the reader letting the poem burrow deep into the psyche and fashion a firm basis in the acceptance of age.   Justice also manifests an image of when the man stands and peers deep into a mirror how, â€Å"They rediscover/ The face of the boy as he practices tying/ His father’s tie there in secret† (9-11).   Throughout the poem, Justice paints the picture of aging.   But, he also gives reference to where the inevitable events of life will lead.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Though Justice’s use of imagery portrays a vivid picture, his use of symbolism about death strikes the reader even harder.   Right from the start Justice grips the reader with a reference to death by saying â€Å"Learn to close softly/ The doors to rooms they will not be/ Coming back to† (2-4).   This tells the reader that no matter what we are all human.   As the poem continues, aging is brought out to be the main idea but, in the last two stanzas, Justice once again shows us that death is coming;   â€Å"Something is filling them, something/ That is like the twilight sound/ Of the crickets, immense,† (16-18).

The term Oedipus complex was because of the tale of the King Oedipus and the Oedipus Rex of Sophocles. It dwells on a prophecy whereby a young protagonist man is predicted to murder his father and wed his mother in unclear circumstances (Ahmed, 61). From Freud’s perspective, it is evident that young boys require love form their parents and with specific reference to their mothers all of which is a natural need for nurturing from the mother. In addition, Freud notes that young men unconsciously harbor hatred towards their fathers, which grows into wishing for the death of the father. Freud bases his theory on two portions of the mind, the conscious part and the unconscious part. In addition, he also noted that there was a preconscious part of the mind, which is responsible for the interactions between the conscious and the unconscious parts of the mind. In addition, he considers that the preconscious and unconscious minds form the smallest parts of the brain. He also considers that the unconscious mind is responsible for instigating man’s desires for cravings and basic things such as sex, food, thirst among others (Ellis, Abrams, Lidia, 11). From Freud’s perspective, he sates that man is born as an infant who has a pure id. This id is however corrupted and evolves to from wishes of which are unconscious for the growing individual. His views that the corruption of the mind is on the unconscious part could be termed as insufficient and baseless. This is because he states of the division of the brain into three parts, which are diverse in terms of functionality. However in essence the real brain is not divided in the claimed three parts of which he attributes the human traits such as desire, needs and wants. Hence, his claims could also be termed as assumptions or mere speculation as they are lacking. The lack of the three parts of the brain within any real human brain could be a clear illustration of the deviation those theories have had on the psychoanalytic schools of thought (Ellis, Abrams, Lidia, 34). Thus, his position when applied to man exercising free will could be described as fulfilling the desires of the unconscious part all of which is communicated from the unconscious to the conscious part by the preconscious part of the brain. Freud in efforts to convince people that man in essence has an already mapped out fate or destiny all of which is defined by the unconscious part of the brain and communicated to the conscious part of the brain for execution by the preconscious part of the brain all of which are unseen. Freud’s theories were usually explicit on sexual issues, which were considered as untouchable issues at that period. He considers that man does possess free will but is instead driven by the life drive, which is the desire to survive, and the death drive, which is the desire to kill or cease living. From such issues we draw a conclusion that man has fate or destiny which is already predetermined by the natural forces and more so the unconscious part of the mi nd. Hence, according to Freud man does not possess free will but is instead directed towards a fate. In relation to Liaus and Oedipus, they both were unaware of the presence of each other’s existence and were instead directed towards their fate by the unconscious mind. Hence, they both played their role towards the fulfillment of the prophecy. Furthermore, Freud adds that sex and its related actions are based on the unconscious part of the mind. This brings forth the question as to why consensual sex is mere based on unconscious reactions. Thus if so people would have sex with every other person. From such we are able to arrive at a conclusion that individual actions are made from free will as an individual is able to determine if an action is adequate and right before proceeding with the execution of the task. Freud’s basis on the ‘Oedipus complex’ is based on his theory that attraction or desire for the parent who is preferably of the opposite sex is usually a component in the developmental stage especially for younger male children at around the age of five years. In addition according to Sigmund Freud the behavior exhibited by people in society arises from sex and nature all of which are part of the unconscious part of the brain. In addition, the sex and nature or instincts are neurological messages of the physical needs of humans. Hence, in relation to the mythical story of Oedipus, the death of Liaus, Oedipus’ father happened because of his resentment for his father and coupled by the presence of a complex and unfathomable relationship between Oedipus and his mother. On the other hand, man does not have free will as his actions are based on sexual desires. He presupposes that man when born harbors only sexual desire of which becomes evident in maturity. He lays too much emphasis on sexual desires as the driver of man’s actions and more so his actions of social interactions with other people. This statement is insufficient, as man does not interact on a sexual perspective in day-to-day life. Hence, his conclusion can also be disputed by the modern day psychological schools and modern day medicine. Modern day studies indicate that infants and younger children do not harbor any sexual thoughts or feelings hence his claims that man possesses sexual desires while still in the mother’s womb as an embryo. Such claims are insufficient because his efforts are to convince the world that man has his behavior embedded within his mind. Hence, his or her sexual acts are merely out of the subconscious part of the min (Ellis, Abrams, Lidia, 49). Oedipus did not consider Queen Jocasta as his biological mother of who he was predicted to marry by the oracle but instead considered her as a potential wife to be as she held the throne. In addition, Oedipus’ encounter, which resulted in the death of his father who was the king, happened when both were unaware of each other’s identity. Thus according to Freud Oedipus’ murder towards a father of whom he was not aware of, happened out of resentment for the male parent. This is an insufficient statement as the tow Oedipus and Liaus were unaware of each other’s identity. In addition, from the same perspective his marriage towards a mother whom he did not consider was out of love for his mother. This is untrue because none of the two had any idea of each other’s identity. On the other hand, fate had a great role to play in the myth because Oedipus and Liaus visited oracles in efforts to avoid each other’s paths. However their efforts were in futility as the two eventually met and Oedipus after committing the murder did not have an idea of the identity of Liaus and if he was his father. Oedipus’ choice to marry a woman well older than him, edged out of free will and fate. Thus, Freud’s view that there exists a sexual attraction for people and their parents of the opposite sex is edged on mere assumptions. This is because Oedipus did not possess any knowledge that he was about to meet his mother in his path of adventure (Ahmed, 68). In conclusion Sigmund Freud’s theory could be considered as mere sexualized as he considers every actions within the human brain is as a result of the need to have physical fulfillment of specific actions. Hence, his theories are inadequate in that they fail to account for other actions by people, which are not based on a sexual perspective. Finally, he believed that Blacks should develop a separate group economy of producers and consumers, and cooperate as a weapon for fighting economic discrimination and black poverty. DuBois created Talented Tenth, the idea of using the intellectual elite to fight against racism. He believed the only way to fight racism and oppression was to attack the economic power of the white people. Discussions continue about improving the U.S. public education system. One question which is frequently overlooked is: What is the role of parents in education? There are a variety of thoughtful and interesting conversations about everything from resource allocation, to the impact of race on educational achievement, to the most effective uses of technology, to redefining education to meet the needs of the 21st century – topical and relevant discussions that never seem to include parents. Parents aren’t completely ignored, but more often than not, the role they play isn’t a substantive part of the discussion. Their involvement becomes a less than critical part of any proposed solution. I believe we can make the argument that a significant part of the solution to the educational challenges we face requires meaningful parent involvement, not just lip service. In all fairness, however, meaningful parent involvement can be tough. Schools are faced with federal regulations that require it (Title I, Individuals with Disabilities Education Act); there is solid evidence that when parents are involved there is a strong, lasting connection to academic achievement, and particularly for children at high risk. Many of these children have parents who themselves were unsuccessful in school; for these children, parent engagement is a real challenge. For parents, it is generally easier when children are younger; content is easier, and schools (and children) seem a bit more welcoming to parents being involved. As children grow, however, the content becomes more difficult, schools and children are much less welcoming to parent involvement, and parents are left with just asking questions: â€Å"How was school today?† and/or â€Å"Did you do your homework?† Of course, all this doesn’t even consider the issue of parents working multiple jobs who struggle with finding time for involvement in their child’s education. More regulations and legal structures are not necessarily the answer either. There is a subset of children, those with disabilities, who have federal protections mandating significant parental involvement. Unfortunately, those regulations often create a contentious, rather than cooperative, relationship between parents and teachers and school administrators. Suffering from a â€Å"slight hysterical tendency† (p 676), an affliction no one really understands, her husband, a physician, prescribes a treatment, which offers her little support to be well again. Her condition is further aggravated by limitations of her social role as his wife. She is confined, controlled and devalued by her husband. She is powerless to renegotiate her situation. She is trapped by her treatment, her environment and her social role as a wife, with no hope of change. Given the hopelessness of her situation, she chooses to overpower what she can defeat, a figment of her imagination. The setting is a colonial mansion, which the husband, John, has rented as a place of respite for her recovery. It is run down and neglected, like his wife – run down from her illness and emotionally neglected, as her desires are overruled by his practicality. The mansion has housed children in the past. The nursery serves as the couple’s bedroom, where â€Å"the windows are barred† (p 677), to prevent the children from injuring themselves from a fall. Like the children, she is protected and imprisoned. This â€Å"atrocious nursery† (p 677) is covered with â€Å"a smouldering unclean yellow† (p 677) wallpaper, which becomes her obsession. Surrounding the mansion is plenty of fresh air, an aspect of her treatment. But the wife suspects an air about the house -- an air of an unwanted presence. Being isolated, the mansion is a perfect place for her confinement, another aspect of her treatment. Her husband has prescribed a version of the â€Å"rest cure†[1]. His â€Å"rest cure† amounts to being idle. The wife is a writer with artistic sensibility. She is deeply offended by the yellow wallpaper and its â€Å"sprawling flamboyant patterns committing every artistic sin† (p 677). She needs an outlet to express herself, through writing, but is prevented from doing so, as part of her â€Å"rest†. However, she still writes, covertly. John is a physician, an expert on physical illness. Being practical, he is not predisposed to be an expert on the artistic temperament. She disagrees with her treatment, but remains silent on that issue, displaying appropriate wifely behaviours. To be appropriate, to exhibit â€Å"proper self-control† (p 676) is required as his wife in the nineteenth century. She is the property of her husband and must appear to submit to his will. The main emotions that Poe stressed are morning, grief and sadness.The narrator is morning the loss of his wife Lenore and he is depressed about it. The narrator was reading late at night to suppress the â€Å"sorrow for the lost Lenore† and he was sad and then he thought he saw her come back to life and come to the door (Poe). Poe also shows a few different emotions about how the narrator feels about the raven. He at first is cautious and even scared of the raven, especially since it could talk. He then became amused by the raven and develops a respect for the bird b ecause he came in like he owned the place and started talking, well at least saying one word.Then by the end of the poem Poe does not like the bird at all and describes him as an â€Å"ungainly fowl† (Poe). The Dark Romantic Poet does a wonderful job at typifying Romanticism and expressing many emotions through his poem, the Raven. How Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition Works In the quest for ever-improving fuel efficiency and emissions reduction, an old and very promising idea has found new life. HCCI (Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition) technology has been around for a long time but has recently received renewed attention and enthusiasm. While the early years saw many insurmountable (at the time) obstacles whose answers would only come as sophisticated computer controlled electronics were developed and matured into reliable technologies, progress stalled. Time has, as it always does, worked its magic and nearly every problem has been solved. HCCI is an idea whose time has come with nearly all of the parts and pieces of technology and know-how in place to make a real go of it. What is HCCI? An HCCI engine is a mix of both conventional spark-ignition and diesel compression ignition technology. The blending of these two designs offers diesel-like high efficiency without the difficult- and expensive- to deal with NOx and particulate matter emissions. In its most basic form, it simply means that fuel (gasoline or E85) is homogeneously (thoroughly and completely) mixed with air in the combustion chamber (very similar to a regular spark-ignited gasoline engine), but with a very high proportion of air to fuel (lean mixture). As the engines piston reaches its highest point (top dead center) on the compression stroke, the air/fuel mixture auto-ignites (spontaneously and completely combusts with no spark plug assist) from compression heat, much like a diesel engine. The result is the best of both worlds: low fuel usage and low emissions. How Does HCCI Work? In an HCCI engine (which is based on the four-stroke Otto cycle), fuel delivery control is of paramount importance in controlling the combustion process. On the intake stroke, fuel is injected into each cylinders combustion chamber via fuel injectors mounted directly in the cylinder head. This is achieved independently from air induction which takes place through the intake plenum. By the end of the intake stroke, fuel and air have been fully introduced and mixed in the cylinders combustion chamber. As the piston begins to move back up during the compression stroke, heat begins to build in the combustion chamber. When the piston reaches the end of this stroke, sufficient heat has accumulated to cause the fuel/air mixture to spontaneously combust (no spark is necessary) and force the piston down for the power stroke. Unlike conventional spark engines (and even diesels), the combustion process is a lean, low temperature and flameless release of energy across the entire combustion chamber. The entire fuel mixture is burned simultaneously producing equivalent power, but using much less fuel and releasing far fewer emissions in the process. At the end of the power stroke, the piston reverses direction again and initiates the exhaust stroke, but before all of the exhaust gases can be evacuated, the exhaust valves close early, trapping some of the latent combustion heat. This heat is preserved, and a small quantity of fuel is injected into the combustion chamber for a pre-charge (to help control combustion temperatures and emissions) before the next intake stroke begins. Challenges for HCCI An ongoing developmental problem with HCCI engines is controlling the combustion process. In traditional spark engines, combustion timing is easily adjusted by the engine management control module changing the spark event and perhaps fuel delivery. Its not nearly so easy with HCCIs flameless combustion. Combustion chamber temperature and mixture composition must be tightly controlled within quickly changing and very narrow thresholds that include parameters such as cylinder pressure, engine load and RPMs and throttle position, ambient air temperature extremes and atmospheric pressure changes. Most of these conditions are compensated for with sensors and automatic adjustments to otherwise normally fixed actions. Included are individual cylinder pressure sensors, variable hydraulic valve lift and electromechanical phasers for camshaft timing. The trick isnt so much as getting these systems to work as it is getting them to work together, very quickly, and over many thousands of miles an d years of wear and tear. Perhaps just as challenging though will be the problem of keeping these advanced control systems affordable. In reading the positive and negative suggestions on creative teaching,† it says that to use are as an integral part of the days activity demonstrates an active and sincere interest in the things being done.† This is a positive suggestion which I feel is true because making art a daily activity in a child’s daily routine of the day the child gets to express there day or get t o create objects or things they feel good about. Another positive statement was made that â€Å"children are only interested in demonstrating the reality of the mind and emotions not the reality of outward appearances.† This is also a another true statement because children in a whole express there feelings through drawings compared to a four year old who draws stick figures but still shows or express his or her feelings of self-confidence. In the positive statement it says â€Å"children need a certain degree of privacy; give them a feeling of independence.† In that statement when I did the work with a child assignment I did it with my nephews and they both didn’t like me hovering over them. They wanted to express there favorite place in there drawings and when they where finished they felt confident to tell me about there place.
